About Me

Bec & Jack-1In early 2015, I was notified that I had been accepted into a Masters of Museum and Heritage Studies at the University of Sydney. The first decision I made after hearing this news was to start a blog documenting my studies as well as my volunteering and work in the museum sector. I wanted the blog to be an online document of my experiences. Looking back now, over two years later, I am so glad I made this decision. My blog has grown and developed over time, most notably to include reviews of museum/heritage places around the world. Since graduating at the end of 2016, the focus of my blog has shifted almost entirely to being a place where I can write my reviews. There will still be posts here and there about my career. If you enjoy visiting museums, admiring heritage sites or simply reading reviews, then look no further! Read on to discover more about me.

I’m a Masters of Museum and Heritage Studies graduate from the University of Sydney currently working as the Exhibitions and Education Officer at Gladstone Regional Art Gallery and Museum. In this role, I have had the opportunity to gain new skills such as lighting exhibitions, writing exhibition reports, managing travelling exhibitions, professionally hanging artwork, and publishing exhibition catalogues.

I have a Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) from the University of Queensland majoring in modern history and German. In addition to my studies in Australia, I have also completed two semesters abroad in Berlin at Humboldt Universitat zu Berlin and a Goethe German language course in Munich.

I have volunteered, interned, and worked in the heritage/museum sector since 2010. During this time, I have assisted with and/or completed projects at the Queensland Parliamentary Library, Queensland Police Museum, MacArthur World War II Museum, Abbey Museum of Art and Archaeology, the Commissariat Store Museum, and the RD Milns Antiquities Museum. In 2015, I completed an internship at the Geoffrey Kaye Museum of Anaesthetic History in Melbourne.

While in Sydney, I balanced a variety of roles:

  • Educator & Tour Guide – Sydney Harbour Federation Trust
  • Gallery Officer, Program Producer, & Volunteer Program Officer – Museum of Applied Arts & Sciences
  • Museum Assistant – Hurstville Museum
  • Curator and Archivist – Harry Daly Museum
  • Digitisation Assistant – State Library of New South Wales
  • Curriculum Program Deliverer – Sydney Living Museums

Museum and heritage areas I am most interested in include collection management, coordinating volunteers, education, and program production.

I hope you enjoy reading my blog!
