Firstly, congratulations Museum Victoria for winning the Museum Dance Off. Fantastic to see staff at an Australian institution dance their way to the top. If you haven’t had a chance to see their moves check it out here:
The Phar Lap scene at the beginning continues to bring tears of joy.
In other news, make sure to add International Museum Day to your diary – Wednesday 18th of May. This day of celebration has actually been running since 1977. According to the International Council of Museums (ICOM):
[The objective of International Museum Day is to raise awareness of the fact that, “Museums are an important means of cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding, cooperation and peace among peoples.”]
Although Australia is offering only one planned event (yay if you’re in Victoria and can make it to the NGV) why not take this opportunity to visit that one museum you have always wanted to see but never had the time. I will be joining the awesome people in my course for an afternoon at the Hyde Park Barracks Museum. I’ve walked past the Barracks numerous times, but, have never actually visited. I am looking forward to seeing how they engage audiences and present the convict past.
